Cinnamon

Postby nomko on Mon May 21, 2012 12:10 am

Hi everybody!

Yesterday i installed Mint 13. Looks good, installation as usual: no problems!

However, when i installed Cinnamon i encounter a few drawbacks:

1) How do i get rid of that ugly shadow behind every window?

2) How do i prevent that a not fully expanded windows on my 22 inch screen, will expand fully when i drag it over my desktop? This is very, very annoying.

3) Is it normal that after installing Cinnamon i also get that ugly Unity desktop environment?

4) Is it possible to modify the menu? Meaning, get it more lok like MATE?

Anything else looks great.

Cheers and many thanks!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Q no.3 Unity is another shell and it is not included by default. You can easily install it using synaptic package manager.

Q no.4 No currently it can be made to look like old mint menu. But still you can edit the menu just right click on menu.

I didn't and don't want to install it. It came with Cinnamon. So, therefore my question if it is standard to get Unity along with Cinnamon.

Q no.4 No currently it can be made to look like old mint menu. But still you can edit the menu just right click on menu.

The problem is, i tried that already. And the amount of options are too limited compared to MATE. In MATE is can set the height of the icons, i can set the numbers of rows for my favorite buttons, in MATE i can..... To me, Cinnamon looks good, but it is still too much Gnome3: limited options for configuration.

But thanks for your reply rajuvembala!

Unity does not come with Cinnamon, you have done something else to download it if that's what you see. Like all shells Cinnamon has several different themes - if you don't like the default one, change it. There is a classic menu applet for Cinnamon which brings the menu a lot closer to the original Mint Menu than than the current default Cinnamon menu does, check http://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets and go exploring.
Thank you for this thread. That’s all I can say. You most definitely have made this forum into something special. You clearly know what you are doing, you’ve covered so many bases. Thanks!

No. Just installed Cinamon from synaptic. Didn't do nothing else.

Okay, I'll try that one!

Questions 3 and 4 are answered. What about questions 1 and 2???
