Getting two alert dialogs of different style, for some reaso

Postby jbrendel on Mon Apr 23, 2012 7:26 pm

Hello!

I noticed that I seem to be getting two alert notifications for network related issues, both alerts for the same thing, but presented in a different style.

Please see the attached screenshots. The first dialog is maybe more in a Gnome 3 style, and the latter more native for Cinnamon? Really not sure.

What happens is that my laptop wants to connect to a new wireless network. I get the first dialog (the one in darker gray). I click 'Cancel'. A few seconds later the second dialog pops up, asking me the same question, but in the different style. I click 'Cancel' again and nothing further appears.

Two questions now:

1. How can I stop it from asking me twice? Apparently two detection daemons are running, so I guess one of them should be killed?
2. How can I make the system use the first style by default (for example also for gksudo dialogs or anything else)? I quite like it, actually...

Thank you very much!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

not one hundred percent sure about this but I remember entering two passwords before, one is for the "keyring" and the other one is for the network "router". Do you remember being asked to enter a keyring?

No, I wasn't asked for the keyring. Those two dialogs - both for the same thing - are all that appears.

The different style of those dialogs seems to indicate that they have been generated by two different sub-systems. Almost as if Gnome 3 somehow managed to break through the Cinnamon layer on that occasion. Or something like that.

I don't have an explanation, but the same thing happens to me if my router has crashed, or the system can't connect to the wireless for some reason.

I've been having an issue with this in both Mint 12 (with Gnome 3) and Mint 13 (with Cinnamon). In both cases, it seems like there is a "default" system notification (the light grey window) and one which comes from the desktop environment in use (the dark grey one). So far I haven't found any solution. It would be nice to be able to choose between the two notification styles, but I would be happy just to manage to avoid being asked the key twice. It's not a major issue, but it becomes very irritating at times when my wireless is unable to connect for some reason. Is there a way to find out which notification daemon pops up the dialog and disable it?
