Get app to start on 2nd display how?

I have two monitors setup as a single X screen using the nouveau driver, so the Cinnamon menu only appears on the left hand monitor. How can I get apps to start on the right-hand monitor, rather than having to drag them there after starting them. If I start an app, drag it to the right hand monitor, close it, and then start it again, it opens on the left hand monitor rather than the last monitor it was on. This happens with everything I've tried (Firefox, Chrome, Libreoffice, Terminal, etc). Running Cinnamon 1.4.
