nVidia 295

Yesterday an update to some bits of the nVidia 295 driver popped into the system. After the update the Secondlife viewer was badly screwed with a black screen, so I rebooted, thinking that the utils were clashing with the new driver. After this boot, I could log in to Mint12 with Mate or Groan3, but not with Cinnamon - it just hung with my background up, but nothing else, mouse still moving, the only way out was to CTRL-ALT-BSPC. As I could use Mate, I removed nVidia, and reinstalled nVidia 280, which is what I am running now with Cinnamon.

Did anyone else see this? Or is it my hardware?

I think I pulled the same updates last night... no problems so far.

I Had exactly the same issue tonight (which is why im here now). Took a system update last night which included nvidia driver 295.xx.

booted up into cinnamon today and although my wallpaper appeared as usual i had no desktop as such . no icons , no menus, mouse moved but no clicks registered . could still shell out to terminal and ctrl+alt+del to logout.
changed to MATE first then Gnome and had no issues .
Logged into Gnome , and used Synaptic to rollback to previous Nvidia Driver 280.xx ?
Can now run cinnamon with no issues.

Mint 12 on Acer Revo 3700 (Nvidia ION2)

Your not alone . This isnt my first Nvidia issue and i doubt it will be my last
