Cinnamon Freezes after login

Hi,

I've heard great things about Cinnamon and the DT poll shows its the overwhelming favorited. I would love to check it out, but cannot. The only desktop I can load is MATE. I installed Cinnamon 1.4 from Synaptic, rebooted and selected Cinnamon as my desktop and logged.

The desktop is rendered, panel across the bottom, icons on the DT. Mouse cursor is there and moves. But nothing happens when I click anything - menu, DT icons, panel (lower right) Its as though my DT is just a static screenshot.

The only thing I can do is ctrl+alt+backspace to kill my session and relog with MATE.

What can I do to TS this? Thanks for any suggestions.

You can try to run following code on terminal to reset Cinnamon settings.

gsettings reset-recursively org.cinnamon

Thanks much kelebek. I tried as suggested - no change everything is still frozen.

A little more info on my symptoms -- most notably - event the clock in the panel is frozen. Upon login it shows current date/time but never changes.

Another thing is I actually do NOT have any DT icons. Now, I don't know if Cinnamon uses a set of standard DT icons. But neither do my /home/greg/desktop icons with various docs, launchers, etc. which show in Mate display.

Any more ideas from all would be welcome.

No ideas on why Cinnamon freezes after login?

I've also updated my ATI driver up v 1.4 per this post viewtopic.php?f=59&t=93731

Any further clues or tips would be most welcome.

id like to add i also am now experiencing this

my old laptop core duo intel, using intel gpu and drivers run amazing, just installed mint onto my desktop pc 12 on a dual boot everything went smooth, then last night an update ran and i also have the static screen on gnome,gnome classic, and cinnamon completley hung only ctrl + alt + back will get me out, no clock movement

the gpu on the pc is ATi also as above? still MATE works super fast (well its faster than cinnamon anyway) no crashes. I have re-installed lots of gnome, cinnamon things again but nothing.

tried the command as mentioned and nothing has changed?

any ideas im stuck on MATE and would like to get away from seeing a static screen shot?!
