<SOLVED> Snapping windows (compiz grid) with shortcut keys

Postby gfreeau on Sat May 26, 2012 2:14 pm

In the cinnamon shortcut options, there is settings that expand a window horizontally or vertically and expand a window both ways.

Is it possible to add keyboard shortcut keys that emulate the window snapping features when you drag a window to the left and right? so that the windows snap to the left half, the right half.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

After I just posted this, I found this: https://github.com/paulswartz/gnome-shell-grid

This emulates the grid feature from compiz, there is an outstanding pull request that fixes the corner shortcuts not working but it isn't pulled yet. You should replace gnome-shell-grid.py with https://raw.github.com/tommycli/gnome-s ... ll-grid.py

You have to install 2 packages, this info is in the read me. You can test test it out by running

python gnome-shell-grid

The default keys are ctrl+alt num 1,4,7 etc. It works great, give it a try.

I added it as a startup script and everything works great with cinnamon.

We should get this turned into an extension.

Here is a screenshot of this plugin in action, I made a few small tweaks to make room for my dock.

The short cuts don't seem to work for me.

Control-Alt-Shift k for top half? Correct?

I am also getting "Xlib.protocol.request.QueryExtension" when I run "python gnome-shell-grid.py"
