can´t unlock after displays go to sleep

Postby esplinter on Mon May 28, 2012 5:26 am

Hi all,

I am having a really annoying bug.

I am using mint13 x86_64 with cinnamon, nvidia graphics cards using oficial nvidia drivers and a dual screen setup. When I lock my screen and inmediatly unlock it works ok but if I go away from my computer for a while and my screens go to sleep (the system don´t suspend or sleep) then when I try to login again I don´t get the password prompt but just a blue screen where I can´t do nothing . I can´t login again without restarting mdm so I lose all my current work.

It´s a really important bug for me as I can´t work this way :( Is anyone else having this problem? It´s a pain because everything else in cinnamon is working great for me.

many thanks for any help.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I have just found a workaround which at least let me work.

When I try to unlock the computer I have the main screen with a blue background and the second screen with black background. If I move my mouse cursor to the second screen and push ESC button I can see the password prompt and unlock the machine.

I have the same setup and problem. Even though you can't see the login dialog, just type in your password and it will unlock.

Hi,

After switching from propietary nvidia drivers to free nouveau driver the problem has dissapeared.

I have updated the bug report and found there is also an opened issue in cinnamon´s github:

Cinnamon 64 mint13
I have uninstalled the proprietary graphics driver for ATI cards.
Wondering if it solves the problem.

Observations
Where I could not see an action from the keyboard input, without knowing I was typing my password over and over in the browser.
So the active (write-able) program was covered by the screen saver. There was no (logic) way to escape and see what was happening.

How have I discovered this?
After a hard restart I had chosen to restore the browser TABS. There I saw my password typed many times.

I hope this will help solving the problem.
