cinnamon 1.4 exteremely slow on ubuntu 11.10

Hi!
(I tried to post as a follow up to

but it's locked)

I've tried cinnamon 1.4 on ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric) (installed through synaptic using the
PPA: https://launchpad.net/~gwendal-lebihan- ... mon-stable)
but it's extremely slow, so slow that cannot use it.
After reading
viewtopic.php?f=90&t=96579
I have not found any real simple solution. Some entries indicate I should try
another kernel, but I was actually looking for a simple way of changing to a better desktop not
having to change the distribution, thus changing the kernel is not really something I feel
like doing (not a question of laziness, I just feel intimidated by such an operation).

Any advice?

Why aren't you running Mint? It may then be easier for people to help you.
