Cinnamon Good Start but ...

Postby marcus0263 on Sat Jul 21, 2012 11:22 am

Made the plunge, so far I see a good start, need to know though how to

1. Window Roll up/Shading, haven't seen where I can change the behavior of double click the window from maximize to roll up
2. Also major pain is where in the menu or panel can I make an application launcher with icon that I can pin to the panel

Cinnamon is young and will take a bit to become as mature as Gnome 2, but excellent progress towards making Gnome 3 a workable desktop instead of the tablet/phone interfaces of Unity and Gnome Shell.

1. I never see Shading Windows in Gnome. Thought that was Xfwm's feature :?
2. If you want to add an application from the menu to the panel, you can navigate to it, right-click the app then choose "Add to Panel". If you want to make custom launcher... well, I think you can add it to the menu first (right-click Menu -> Edit Menu -> New Item), then add it to Panel later.

1. Yep it's there for Gnome 2, miss it for it's one of the best features ya know
2. Kewel! trying it now, thought it was something simple.

On a side note, used to run Fluxbox back a few years ago. One of the best features it has was it's tabbing, you could just drag a window into another window and you could tab. Example have a terminal session open then drag another application like Firefox within that window and tab.

Anways thanks for the heads up about editing the menu

Cheers

It is doable in Cinnamon - you can set double-click to roll up the window in Cinnamon Settings, Window Settings.

Oh dear - actually, I have the same problem, so it does seem to be a bug. I'd spotted the option, but not tried to use it before.
