Panels and Dual Monitors

Postby txtad on Thu Jul 26, 2012 2:51 pm

Howdy!

I have dual 1680x1050 monitors, the left is the primary monitor. I have the default panel, in top mode, on the left monitor, but I cannot figure out how to either get the panel to span both monitors or get a second panel at the top of the right monitor.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks,
Tad

Not sure what video card you have but I was able to do it on mine on a NVidia card using twinview.

There is a bit of a hack that you can do to get the panel to span both monitors.

Edit: /usr/share/themes/YOUR THEME/cinnamon/cinnamon.css

Scroll down or search for #panel and add: width: 3360px; below height.

The reason I say this is a hack is because as is, your windows will not honor this area as the panel and will fall below it. For different resolutions just add the width of your monitors and replace 3360 with that number.

If windows won't honor it, I won't bother. Is there a bug filed against this yet?
