Hi, I'm running Mint 13 and I want to upgrade to Cinnamon 1.6, but when I add the ppa ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-stable and open synaptic, it does not show a new version for cinnamon. When I apply a filter to show packages from only the ppa, cinnamon is not listed there, but it shows in the launchpad page for the ppa as well as in the release file and the deb package is definitely there sine I can download it. Please help

It says that Cinnamon 1.6 can be installed by activating the Romeo source which is an unstable package source?? Is that smart to do? Especially when the user prefers a stable system...

It's OK. I even use nightly builds of Cinnamon and all of them work like a charm
In that blog post Clem also said that you should uncheck romeo after upgrading to 1.6.0.

we need to see in perspective what romeo is and what these cinnamon packages are:

1- romeo is the section of the mint repo where packages that still need community testing/feedback go first, before they are "promoted" to main; that way sometimes we can get some unstable packages from there, packages that still need work or even packages that end up removed (can't remember one tho but that's a possibility)

2- the cinnamon packages available at the moment in maya's romeo are 1.6.4 http://packages.linuxmint.com/list.php? ... Maya#romeo (several minor releases behind the latest release; for example nadia has in main 1.6.7 http://packages.linuxmint.com/list.php?release=Nadia)

I recently upgraded a Mint 13 Cinnamon 32 bit to Cinnamon desktop 1.6.

The easiset way for me was to log out of Cinnamon. Log in to Gnome 3 Classic.
Change the software sources: + romeo.
Refresh.
Then all the Cinnamon 1.6 desktop upgrade and packages appear as 1 proirity update in the update manager.
Update the system.
Then log out of Gnome 3 classic, and log back into Cinnamon 1.6 with zero problems.
Change the software sources: - romeo.
Voila.



NOTE:

When I tried to do this while logged in to the Mint 13 Cinnamon desktop it got ugly for me:
no title bars! no scrollbars! no bottom panel! no start menu.....

And of course, zz was right:
gir1.2-muffin-3.0 was not installed (when I had been logged into the cinnamon desktop while trying to upgrade it)

Thank you all for your help. I removed the PPA and enabled romeo, then installed cinnamon from text console and am now running Cinnamon 1.6.4 (which btw is running like a rainbows' beast). Oh, and I ran into the same problem as malligt. Then I apt-get upgraded, which installed gir1.2-muffin-3.0 and fixed the problem.

thanks zz, enabled the backports repo and disabled remeo. Now my LTS install has the latest goodies!!

according to Clem there's more nadia goodies coming in: the new (and fixed) software center, skype, new artwork (i will forget some for sure )
maya is receiving some love
