Trouble changing cinnamon themes

ok....so im having trouble changing the my themes in mint 14 cinnamon.....i can get to the cinnamon settings-->Themes window....but i cant just click or double click and change the theme...i can go to "Other settings" and change the cursor and the window theme....but it wont allow me to modify the underlying theme of the os for some reason....i can even change the login appearance....i need some help....
