Is there a fullscreen toggle in Cinnamon?

Postby RickJ on Mon Jan 21, 2013 9:55 am

I'm exploring Mint (seeing as I don't like where Ubuntu's gone post 10.04), and favourably impressed so far. But one feature I use a lot and can't find in Cinnamon is a window-manager fullscreen toggle. It was always Alt+F11 in Metacity, but there seems no such feature in MDM. Is there a cunning way to enable it, or can you switch to using Metacity in Cinnamon - or should I try Mate perhaps?

Please note I'm not talking about fullscreen as implemented by some apps (e.g. most browsers), usually using F11, which works fine. I'm looking for the feature in the window-manager, which can switch any app fullscreen.

Thanks

Win+Up arrow = maximise
Win+Down arrow = Unmaximise

These settings can all be found in Cinnamon Settings>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts>Windows.

Is that what you mean?

Come to think about it, it probably isn't what you mean, but there is an unassigned shortcut in there for 'Toggle fullscreen state' - maybe have a play with that.

Edit. The minimise window shortcut doesn't work so just remap it. I used Win+PageDown.

No, not maximise, full-screen. Subtle but important difference. Checkout what Firefox or Chrome do when you hit F11: window covers the whole screen, including the panel, and window borders and title bar disappear. You get absolute maximum use of the screen. I use a netbook with 1024x600 resolution, so it's really important to use every pixel effectively!

Not all apps support F11, but Metacity can do the trick with any app, normally mapped to Alt+F11. That's what I'm looking for, I can't believe other WMs don't support it.

I edited my last post a while back, perhaps after you posted your reply. Did you check out the 'Toggle fullscreen state' shortcut?

Sounds like what I'm looking for - where do I find that setting? I couldn't see it anywhere, probably because I'm not used to poking Cinnamon's options. :(

Thanks

Same answer as before.

These settings can all be found in Cinnamon Settings>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts>Windows.

Just scroll down a bit.
