panel icon drag/drop delete problem

Hi. I'm having a problem with the panel icons. When I drag and drop or delete an icon, the wrong icon gets changed. For instance if I right-click-remove an icon, the icon next to it disappears. Also if I drag an icon one position to the left, I end up with two copies of the same icon rather than the icons switching position.

I'm new to this so not sure how to tell where version info is for Cinnamon but installed and updated last week. This is mint-14.

I'm also not sure where the panel config files are so I can't see how they are being changed. Where would I find docs on items like this?
