Conky + Cinnamon 1.6.7

Postby dottimus on Thu Feb 14, 2013 7:12 am

I've search around on various topics, yet have not found an answer to my particular issue. If you know of one, simply reply with the link and I appreciate the help ahead of time.

I'm using LM 14 with the newest Cinnamon and have tried installing Conky a number of times, however it never shows on the desktop. Before anyone asks, I'm familiar enough with the program to know where the .rc file needs to be placed, etc. Has anyone experienced this same issue or am I experiencing a bug that may be in conflict with other software?

could it be the windows specifications in your conky config file? heres mine and it works perfectly

# - Window specifications - #
#############################
own_window yes
own_window_class Conky
own_window_type normal
own_window_transparent yes
own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager

It is a possibility, though that's never been an issue before. I'll play around with just that and we'll see what happens. Thanks. ;)

What is the version of Cinnamon you are using (you did not put this in your list of specifications)?

Do 'cinnamon --version' in terminal
also..
Do 'conky --version' in terminal

Thank you very much as I posted about this problem before so I decided to change my window options to yours and now it's working perfectly fine :)

I- instructions:

1- change own_window_type to dock so it looks like this : own_window_type dock

Don't panic when you see your conky alignment messed up( it will move to your left) :D. Just go to step 2.

2- finetune gap_x and gap_y.

I set them like this myself:
gap_x 1030
gap_y 20

3- comment alignment by adding # beforeso it looks like this:
#alignment top_left

II- Sample conkyrc:

Code: Select all

EDIT: Scrap that, found out that as soon as I minimise all the open windows Conky disappears from my desktop :(

Actually, I found a small problem.

The edges of my Conky window would be like a wall to other programs and block the window going past (over) it unless you pushed a little harder.

So I changed the window type of the Conky file and now there's no resistance to the window going over Conky.

From:

Code: Select all
own_window_type normal

To:

Code: Select all
own_window_type desktop

My window properties now look like this:

Code: Select all
#############################
# - Window specifications - #
#############################
own_window yes
own_window_class Conky
own_window_type desktop
#own_window_type normal
own_window_transparent yes
own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager
#own_window_argb_visual yes
#own_window_argb_value 100
