Can I have Cinnamon without gobject-introspection

Postby roelof on Fri Feb 15, 2013 12:18 pm

Hello,

Like I said before I busy with porting Cinnamon.
But I ran into a problem.

Gobject-introspection writes the .gir files into /usr/share/gir-1.0 dir
But on Crux linux I'm not allowed to use the /usr/share dir.

So now I wonder if I can build Cinnamon without gobject-introspection package.
Or is there another way to solve this ?

Regards,

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

No, Cinnamon requires gobject-introspection, there's no way around that.
As for solutions, I know nothing about Crux, but that would be the first time I hear/read of a linux distro that doesn't use /usr/share...

gobject-introspection is mainly used to provide an interface between the UI written in JavaScript and the base code and window manager written in C.

I think you can create the /usr/share folder yourself, even if the Crux developers consider it bad practice:
Code: Select all
# mkdir /usr/share

If necessary you can use chmod to set the right permissions for writing in the folder.

Feel free to correct me if I'm trying to write in Spanish, French or German.
