Menu File Location

Where is/are the files that control the content of the menu located and called and can they be manually edited?

Right click the Menu, and select "Edit Menu"
Running on a 4-slot toaster @ 60Hz

Yes, I know that I can do that but it is very slow and buggy. Every time I try to move a selection up or down, I get an error. It would be much faster for me if there was a .conf or .xml file I could edit. Apparently that doesn't exist. It doesn't matter now. I'm done with Cinnamon. Gnome seems to be more responsive to my needs.
