desktop theme changes not being applied

Installed from 14.0 livecd, fully updated. I go to 'Cinnamon Settings' -> Themes, select one, and nothing happens. It seems to highlighted when I check back, even after logging out and back in again, but it's not being applied.

I *can* change the wallpaper, but that's about it.

What I'm really trying to change is what KDE distros would call "window decorations" -- I don't like the grey itunes-esque look, but there doesn't seem to be anything specific for that element. If I were using a KDE distro (or maybe even the KDE version of Mint) I'd know where to look, but I'm trying to give Cinnamon a fair chance.

Notes to themes artists
For your theme to fully work with Cinnamon 1.4 you need to add styles for the buttons in “Expo”. Click on the links below to see how this was done in the default theme:

MDM has also been improved in this release. It supports legacy GDM 2 themes, and 30 are included with Linux Mint 14. More can be had at GNOME Look. MDM also supports user lists and faces. You can now also switch users via the lock screen.

You need to go into Other Settings, the main Themes tab just changes your Cinnamon theme (the shell, not windows)

And there should be some changing of the taskbar when you choose another Cinnamon theme from the Themes tab...
