Cinnamon/X crashes with fullscreen programs

Well I have this problem that when I try to run games or programs that use fullscreen, the whole desktop crashes and throws me back to the login screen, with the monitor settings screwed up, leaving me no option except to reboot. Some other programs that use fullscreen work just fine. This problem also seems to come and go, sometimes I get them starting just fine, and some programs work fine in windowed mode but crash if I try to switch to fullscreen.

I'm running Mint 13 with backported Cinnamon 1.6. Are there any logs or dump files I could upload to help solve the problem?

Hello, dee.

You might start providing details about your system by proving the screen output of the commandline

Code: Select all

inxi -Fx

Hello, dee.

I see the Intel graphics card in your machine. My office machine has got an Intel graphics card, too. In order to prevent the graphical desktop environment from freezing, I had to add the parameter acpi_osi=linux to the grub configuration. This was the most important step to fix the problem on that machine. But that machine is still a Dell Latitude E6400, not an HP Compaq dc7700. And it did not crash, but the GUI froze.

Yet, it may be worth a try.

Kind regards,
Karl

Ok thanks I'll give that a try.

Well it worked partially... one of the games seems to work now, the other one still crashes and throws me into login screen when I try to switch to fullscreen, but doesn't seem to screw the display resolution anymore.

Does anyone have any other ideas how to fully solve this fullscreen problem?

I have the same problem - I can run games in fullscreen but Cinnamon crashes when I close them. It's easy enough to press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, but I would also appreciate it if anyone can offer a solution.
