SOLVED: Can't start Cinnamon Session on Linux Mint 14

Hello,

I just did a clean install of Linux Mint on my laptop. It is an Asus G-75VW. Whenever I try to login to a Cinnamon Session (normal or 2D) it gives me a black screen with my mouse pointer on it (which I can move) for a few seconds and then goes back to the login screen. I know the password was right because it plays the login sound as it goes to the black screen.

However, when I try to do the same thing except in a Gnome session, it works fine and logs me right in.

I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling Cinnamon to no avail.

What might be causing this and how can I fix it?

EDIT: Interestingly, MATE works, but for some reason whenever I run it, it looks NOTHING like any MATE session I have ever seen:

Contrast this with what Linux Mint Mate Edition is supposed to look like out of the box:

Why is this?

Found the issue:

I had to install the latest Nvidia drivers. Run the following command (either from a Gnome Session in terminal or by entering the console through control-alt-f2.):

sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

Log out and then login to the Cinnamon session and it should work.

Incidentally, Duck-Duck-Go is a terrible search service that did not help me find this. Only found it once I put Chrome on the machine and used Google.
