Customising Cinnamon on Ubuntu 11.10

Using the instructions found here , I have managed to create an Ubuntu Software-Centre launcher on my Cinnamon panel. The icon that appears on the panel, however, is the generic rhombus ; is there any simple way to replace it with a more appealing alternative ? In late, lamented Gnome2, of course, when adding a new launcher to a list one could right-click the generic launcher icon and replace it with an image stored on one's computer ; does a similar option exist for Cinnamon ?...

I am told an option to move the panel from the current bottom position to the top is in the works ; does anyone have a clue as to when will it be incorporated in the PPA (I'm currently running version 1.1.3-0ubuntu1~oneiric) ? Or is there any way to manually download a version that would permit me to do this now ?...
