Compiz issues on linux mint 12

I installed compiz fusion & configured it and now when I restart my computer, compiz does not run at startup. I then ran a 'compiz --replace' command in my ternimal & thn the compiz settings took effect but now my desktop does not display anything except my background

[proxima_centauri]

What DE are you using? Compiz isn't supported with GNOME3 or Cinnamon.
