File Manager doesn't open from Docky

Postby ergine on Thu Dec 06, 2012 12:32 pm

I'm using Linux Mint 14 with MATE and I use Docky to open and switch between programs.

There's a strange glitch: File Manager (or File Browser or Caja 1.4.0 of whatever you wanna call it) refuses to open all together. The icon just bounces up and down when clicking on it, but the program won't start. It will not open by right-clicking and choosing “Open” either. I have tried deleting and repinning the icon several times.

This happens ONLY with File Manager. All other programs open and close normally. I have to open it from the Menu, then I can interact (minimize, maximize) with it normally through Docky. But if closed, it can't be opened again from the dock.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Wow... this topic has been sitting around a while...
This solution worked for me:
1) Open up the terminal and run the following command
"sudo pluma /usr/share/applications/caja-browser.desktop"
- of course replace "pluma" with whatever your texteditor happens to be (if it isn't pluma).
2) Replace the following line "Exec=caja --no-desktop --browser %U" with "Exec=caja --no-desktop --browser ."
- Yes, that is a space and an actual period...
3) Place the File Manager on Docky and have convenient times.
Hopefully it will work for you as well.
