Dock overlap with cinnamon panel...??

Postby Stimpeh on Sat Dec 29, 2012 4:35 pm

Hi all,

been trying out Mint 14 on live-usb...runs like a charm!

i'm currently still under ubuntu 12.04 with cinnamon + unity 2d dock. I have the cinnamon panel on top, the dock to the left, which means the top of my vertical dock is in the same place as the menu button for cinnamon. Under ubuntu cinnamon+unity 2D there is no overlap; the dock ends where the panel is situated.
Since i'm considering changing to Mint (i like it better) with cinnamon, i'm trying out different docks on the live-usb, like AWN, Docky, Cairo-dock. The latter seems nice, but with all of these docks there is the probem that when i put them on the left, and i don't want any fancy effects, i want the dock to take the place from windows (edit2: the option for cairo-dock i use is 'reserve space for dock'), so the left of any window is not under the dock - i always end up with the top of the dock 'hiding' as it were behind the menu button. Now if i were to have lots of buttons on my dock, the top button would be half visible.

So, how to make so that the dock is on the left side but starts with a 25 pixel (default thickness of the cinnamon pânel methinks) distance from the top of the screen?

edit: checked just now by replacing cinnamon panel on the bottom on my ubuntu machine, the unity dock adapts and moves so that the bottom icon (that of the trash can), is situated above the panel...and not half in it like with other docks.

i hope my question is clear...

thanks all..
