well couldn't get compiz to change the number of workspaces so I just use the Default.profile in the Emerald download in the OP.
Changed it a little to suite myself, and ta-da!!!

Thanks for the response, It gave me a different way to look at things.
well couldn't get compiz to change the number of workspaces so I just use the Default.profile in the Emerald download in the OP.
