I've just put Mint 11 on someone's laptop that had had a borked XP install, but having downgraded compiz as per the recommendation and my preference, compiz is not starting automatically, though it does if I put compiz --replace in the Startup Applications list (though it ignores some of my settings, e.g. for shadows). I've done this correctly before for myself and I imagine I've just missed out one step or one of compiz's dependencies or elements. Can someone let me know what I might sound like I've forgotten?
Thanks.

Re: compiz auto start question
Try this. Open Synaptic Package Manager and search: fusion-icon. Install that, then locate it in your menu, probobly Administration or Preferences. It will put the blue box icon on your panel. Then right click and you will get this menu. Check to make sure Compiz is set as the window manager.
