Want to use Compiz however no /etc/X11/xorg.conf file

Hi,
Using LMDE and Gnome.
I was looking to use Compiz and reading the instructions I am advised to edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file however this file doesn't exist.
Compiz is installed.
I do not have a video card attached to the computer. I don't know if one is needed, I thought maybe not as I have had no problems using Compiz with Xfce without a video card.
How do I proceed when I cannot edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf ?
