I'm use to running apps by adding them to registry on Windows XP, then just hitting Window Button to gether with R and type in a command or a program and it fires up...
how can i do this in Linux?

If you want to add programs to the menu, depending on which edition of Linux Mint you are using you would right-click the menu button and choose Edit menu. From there you can add new entries to your menu as wanted.
