bash: add icon in notification area

Hello,

I'd like to show an icon in the notification area while a script is running. The idea is to stop the script cliking the icon.

I just found the way how to create an icon on the desktop when the script is running. I'll do that in case I don't find a way to add an icon in the notification area.

I m using the mate version of linux mint 13

Any suggestion will be appreciate.
