A Zork Nemesis zsh file for Wine

Post by seannachie »

Mint 9 Isadora, 32bit, Pentium 4, 3.33 GHz proc., 1GB RAM

I've been trying to get Zork Nemesis (the 3 CD version, not the DVD) running for ages. The only app that I can get to run it is Dosbox. DOSemu will not open it at all (xorg errors), and Wine isn't much better. The video in DB is fine, the sound has this horrible buzzing noise. I edited the DB conf dozens of times. I narrowed it to the PCM, which means there may be a problem with the game's drivers. I've tried updating the Soundblaster drivers, but the game refuses (so far) to use anything but the defaults.
An admin at The Zork Library posted a shell file which he claimed would allow WIne to run the game in an xorg setting.. Naturally, there is some editing involved, some chmod headaches, a timidity requirement... uh, where was I?
Re editing: this is a zsh file. naturally you change the Name to your own, but what about the format? Would changing zsh to sh work?

/bin/znem.sh: 28: [[: not found
/bin/znem.sh: 28: [[: not found (See what I mean about 'chmod headaches'?)
xauth: (argv):1: bad "add" command line (I don't know of any way around this one. It refers to a 'MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE' and the results of a web search indicated something about 'bad security'.

X: user not authorized to run the X server, aborting.
giving up.
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error. (HELLO!!! xinit is already installed!)

I also ran it as root (yes, I've heard that this can be a bad idea), but the result is somewhat longer than the last entry. So if any readers are interested in taking on this challenge, I'll post further.
