Activated programs switching desktops

On the latest version of LMDE (64-bit), I have been experiencing a very annoying bug where programs will switch to the currently active desktop when activated. I often run multiple copies of the same program on different desktops, and have hotkeys setup with compiz to switch to specific desktops to help facilitate this. Any help or a pointer in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
