<SOLVED>Screens drops to back ground only
This issue was solved after installing update pack 5
Ever since I made the brave step to go for cinnamon I have had to "put up" with a problem I expected would get fixed in an update.
Well it did didn't.
The problem
Everything is as normal then the screen drops back to just the desktop background with out icons for a few seconds and then all is restored. This happens at random
Well now I have started to use the print screen button and the screen shot applet I discover that although selection of windows / full screen /selected area appears to work. I only get a image of the background inc icons.
I have in once case seen some apps in view but they are already old as if held in a buffer.
I have also noticed that via desktop remote only a black Gnome3 screen is shown but no control.
The issues I list above do not happen in mate although there I have no menu bottom left
Anyone know anything about these issues
Update
CINNAMON KEEPS CRASHING as well !

Re: Screens drops to back ground only then restores at rando
First place to look is in your .xsession-errors file:
Upload it to pastebin (if it is huge) and post a link to it, off to work in a bit, but will try to look at it later (or some kind person might jump in), else will be tomorrow (day off woohoo! )
Sounds like nautilus is possibly crashing??? Might be worth trying nautilus -q from a terminal.
Code: Select all
gedit .xsession-errors

Thank you for demonstrating why people like myself believe that everything when ever possible should be GUI and not text in a boxSystem: Host livingroom Kernel 3.2.0-2-amd64 x86_64 (64 bit) Distro Linux Mint Debian Edition

Re: Screens drops to back ground only then restores at rando
Sorry Niks, missed the link to pastebin. I have had a look, there are lots of errors like:
Think these may be the problem, but cannot work out what is generating the error.
What applets have you installed? I know a couple kill my system instantly, one is window list with window preview.
Try disabling all of your applets, then if that fixes it, re-enable one by one to isolate which one is causing the problem.
Code: Select all
(cinnamon:2854): Clutter-WARNING **: Attempting to add actor of type 'CinnamonGenericContainer' to a container of type 'StBoxLayout', but the actor has already a parent of type 'StBoxLayout'.

Re: Screens drops to back ground only then restores at rando
I set it to default but to be honest I only had Force kill in there anyway.
Still not fixed the screen capture delay...
I think it's more tricky then that.

Re: Screens drops to back ground only then restores at rando
Ok here is an update ..
I can't turn off the applets !
If I deselect them I get loads of flashes around the screen (mostly in lower section).
but what ever I do they are always there!
So may you are spot on
