LMDE Custom buuild with cinnamon only?

Post by lizbeth »

no mate or gnome dependencies sucked in with it?

i thought of doing a a debian command line only install. adding cinnamon 1.6 on top of it. then slapping the lmde repos into it.

Is there another way?

I'm downloading the weekly build of debian wheezy at the moment....

Cinnamon is Gnome, the only unnecessary gnome dep you pull is nautilus?

FAQ

Will LMDE get new ISO images with Update Pack 5?

Yes, in the coming weeks/months, the following editions will be released either with Update Pack 5 or Update Pack 6 (depending on whether UP6 is a quick/short follow-up update-pack or not):

Cinnamon
MATE
Xfce

LMDE will receive these backports as well, and an Update Pack 6 with ISO images later on this year.

I build systems like that all the time, starting with command line installation and adding only what I want. Works just fine. I've built several Cinnamon installations this way. Cinnamon is forked off GNOME 3 Shell, so there's still plenty of GNOME underneath, but that's by design and nothing to worry about.

Sweet! Thanks for the feedback! I'll go ahead and try the the custom build then off the weekly build of wheezy and see how it goes.
