Hi,
Brand new install of LMDE. I have tried this several different ways and it looks like it works, but the new menu item does not appear. I do see an alacarte file in .local/share/applications so the item is created, it just never shows (even after I log out and back in). The file looks like this.
ski@mango ~/.local/share/applications $ cat alacarte-made-8a06fd7c-6eab-11e3-9afd-0021cc5e956e.desktop
#!/usr/bin/env xdg-open
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Terminal=false
Icon[en_US]=/home/ski/app/TaskUnifier/resources/images/check.png
Name[en_US]=TaskUnifier
Exec=/home/ski/app/TaskUnifier/TaskUnifier.sh
Name=TaskUnifier
Icon=/home/ski/app/TaskUnifier/resources/images/check.png

Hi ski98033,
I'm no expert but I did notice that there is no Categories= statement in your list.
Have a look in: /usr/share/applications for examples of catagories to choose from.
