Screen flickers

Post by Trash »

Just wondering what causes my screen to flicker, sometimes incidentally, at other times insanely running LMDE/cinnamon..

Often it happens when starting with the laptop (Pavilion g7 w/HD4000 + HD7670) and it does not occur anymore when I start a game like lbreakout2.. if the flickering was really bad those game screens might bump a little bit but not near as annoying and frustrating as happens on the desktop running windowed programs.

Because I tried to get rid of it I tried installing the closed ATI drivers, using the sgfxi script, which did not succeed but instead made the system completely unworkable instead. So I had to reinstall LMDE today and of course the flickering is back again..

Is this a common issue?

I never had this running Mint Olivia Cinnamon, but it was introduced after installing Petra Cinnamon..

If you don't mind helping sgfxi author in dealing with this issue and making sgfxi better, then please report it at this forum.
Before reporting, first update sgfxi as root:

Code: Select all

sgfxi -U
and run this (also as root) to collect some info:

Code: Select all

sgfxi --debugger
and then attach the resulting .tar.gz file to your post.
