I find that my laptop screen brightness is reset to maximum every time I login, and I've to manually crank it down. Any idea why this happens? My Fn keys on the keyboard are not recognized, but I'm able to control that via. panel applet.
Brightness looks alright at the session login screen. It goes to maximum only after I type in my credentials and logs in.

Re: Brightness reset to max at every login
Looks like this was because the display brightness was set to 100% in the power management settings (under AC power tab). I stumbled on it while trying to adjust my display timeout. Set that to a minimum value, I get my display brightness settings I login. However the login screen still does have maximum brightness.
Marking this as solved anyway.
