gnote applet in LMDE/Xfce

I've gone around circles searching in this forum and other for a definitive -- and current -- solution for using the Gnote Applet while using Xfce4 with LMDE. I've seen suggestions to run the Xfce4 wrapper for Gnome applets, but that's no longer available. I've seen suggestions for using Xfce's Notes application, but it's too primitive. I've seen suggestions for using Tomboy, but I refuse to run Mono (not because I'm so anti-.Net, but because running Mono ruins my laptop's battery life with timer interrupts).

Gnote itself runs fine. I'd just like to run the applet as well. If that's not possible, then I'll settle on just adding a Launcher icon for Gnote and go off to fuss with other stuff.
