Hi All,

I am recently started using LMDE. been a ubuntu user for past 2-3 years been juglling between ubuntu, pinguy and linuxmint.
wanted to shift back to debian so LMDE.

now what i want is a simple MATE + Compiz kind of environment.

I have been keeping my /home as separate partition for past 2-3 years so basically its a lot cluttered.

now i need help in following 2 steps.
1) remove all traces of cinnamon and gnome3 stuff.
2) keep only mate.
3) any specific folder which i can remove once the above 2 steps are done.
example .gnome or .gnome2 or .gnome3 folders.

or you would suggest to go with a fresh install.

My preference is always a fresh install but if you don't want to go that way try this

in Terminal

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get purge cinnamon
That will get rid of cinnamon and any config files that go with it.
I'm not so sure it's that easy with gnome 3 because I think there are Item shared with Mate.

good luck

thanks for the tip kc1di,

did a purge of cinammon as well as to test stuff renamed all .gnome or simmilar folders.
lost some config's specifically compiz and accessories i was using.
reconfiguring them created clean folders

now struggling to get my old plugin's from nautilus to mate's caja.

rabbitvcs is one i need desperately.

Seems overly complicated to me. Why not simply install with a pre-201204-spin disk?
