[Solved] problem with gnome-shell replacing cinnamon

[Solved] problem with gnome-shell replacing cinnamon

Postby Mithrandir on Wed Dec 11, 2013 6:24 am

Hi, I have installed LMDE Cinnamon 64-bit, but i like gnome shell so after the upgrade I utilized this command:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install -t testing gnome-shell libgjs0c gjs

All seems to be correctly installed, but on the login screen the only possibilities tha I can select are: 1. script Xclient 2. cinnamon desktop 3. cinnamon2d.desktop 4. GNOME Classic 5. Safe remote connection
Obviously if I select cinnamon nothing start, if i select GNOME calssic it start without problems, but is not gnome-shell
When gnome classic is started, if i write the command:
Code: Select all
gnome-shell --replace

gnome-shell start and seems to work correctly, but on the login I can't select it, is not in the list of the sessions available.
How can I solve this?
Thanks for help

Do you have gnome-session installed?

You mean MDM? You can set the theme and modify other settings in MDM setup utility. You can find it in the menu in the Administration category.

I'm reinstalling the system for configuring better the old home, so I must wait for verify, but in my laptop (with LMDE and gnome 3) is not present this possibility, the command mdmsetup in /usr/sbin/ doesn't exist, but exists in the cinnamon version.

Well, MDM is the default display manager, but maybe you've replaced it with something else (GDM, LightDM) on that machine? If MDM is not installed, mdmsetup won't be there.

on the pc in which i installed now LMDE and gnome 3 exists mdmsetup, i have installed gnome-sheòll and gnome-session, so no problem, but i'd like to see the gnome 3 window's login =)
