WOW fps issue

Postby paradoxajd on Tue Feb 18, 2014 3:15 pm

Hello community!
I have installed WOW on my linux mint nadia (14) and getting around 20fps in not crowded area. :/
I've installed via PlayOnLinux, and tried some registry trick i found online, but didn't helped much. Can you please post things and I can do to improve my FPS rating ?
Thanks in advance! :D
EDIT: i forgot to mention that on same machine on win i had around 60fps in non crowded places and 40ish in capital cities (so machine shouldn't be issue)

What GPU do you have? Which drivers? Is it retail or a private server you are playing on? Did you try to lower the settings, and change some things like V-sync on/off? Are you using DirectX or OpenGL?

The image doesn´t show which driver you´re using. I don´t have an AMD GPU myself, due to bad drivers. You could try different drivers, try googel around, or wait and hope for someone else to post in this thread. You did not answer whether you´re using DX or OpenGL, maybe you don´t know what it is. Well if that´s the case, locate the WoW folder and enter the W T F folder and then open the Config.w t f file and paste
Code: Select all
SET gxAPI "OpenGL"

Not sure how that will work in the newer WoW build, but it could be worth a try.

Edit: W T F in one word will be "translated" into confused, The folder should be W T F without the space in between.

I think i was using DirectX because grafics api on wow showed DirectX and then i opened W T F folder and config file gxAPI was somethinkg with d(and some numbers, i forgot). However, I've set opengl instead of that, and now waiting for my server to come back online to check if it's any better. Anyway, i hope this http://i.imgur.com/Lw7GQ1f.png would help you regarding my driver.

Well hopefully it will improve your FPS. That image was a lot better. I see that you´re on a laptop with what I guess is an APU. That might be the problem, I don´t know how good the AMD´s APU drivers for Linux are, but for Nvidia they´re quite bad. So that might be the cause of your problem.

Tried using proprietary drivers, still 5fps during raid. :(

That sucks. Well then you either have to install Windows, or continue to try fiddling with different driver settings, in game settings etc, if you want to be able to play WoW.
