Black screen when running Hearthstone on Linux mint 17

Post by eyalzek »

I'm on Linux Mint 17 with cinnamon and I tried installing Hearthstone in several different ways so far, using wine 1.7.11/1.7.2/1.6.2, Playonlinux running 5-6 different wine versions and I keep getting a black screen when launching the game....
I ran intel-linux-graphics-installer to update my video drivers, ran the game in windowed mode, but still getting that black screen...
For the record, Battle.net is working fine - the problem is just with the game itself.

This is the output when I run the via console using wine:

What Intel chip do you have? Do you have the Wine 32bit libraries installed?

I am not sure if I have those libs installed, how do I verify?

Could you post the output of inxi -G

There you go:

Even that still didn't tell us which video chip.
I don't know why Intel makes it so hard to know what video chip you are using?
I have the same problem with my Chromebook.
Normally Intel video chips are called "Intel HD 4000" "Intel HD 3000" etc.

The PlayOnLinux debug doesn't report anything significant.
What components (windows libraries, dlls) did you install?

Those 32-bit libraries are really important for playing most games.
So if your Mint is 64-bit then go to software manager or synaptics package manager and look for "ia32-libs" or "multi arch"

Your laptop is a Lenovo, but what model?

At least we know your video chip uses 256 RAM.
So In PlayOnLinux configure, click the display tab, then enter 256 under Memory size

It appears to be a Thinkpad Edge 14
Man its hard to find anything on this model
I found a page with all the manuals from Lenovo, but still hard to find the exact video card.
I guess it doesn't matter at this point.
Mint knows what driver is appropriate for the chip. As long as you used "driver manager" to install it, or it was already installed, that should be good.

I'm reading about hearthstone on the playonlinux website: Hearthstoner
You may have to do a manual installation to get it to run.
Every game I install is with manual installation. You just have more control over what is setup and installed.

They mention that you might need flashplayer, disable dbghelp and install mscvp100 library.

Someone else mentions installing these libraries:
wininet
atl100
atl90
d3dx9_36
d3dx9_43
dgbhelp (disabled)
msvcp100
msvcr100

If you get an error with the launcher, then adobe flash should fix it.

Let me know if you need help doing a manual installation in PlayOnLinux.
I don't use Wine alone at all.

In PlayOnLinux?
Can you post the debug so we can see what errors you are getting?

Sorry about the link but for some reason I cannot upload log/txt files to the forum:
http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fi ... 8501263395

This is a log from the second I launched the game via POL and it launched battle.net, then launched hearthstone, I waited some time on the black screen and then I closed everything..

This is the only significant error that I could see:
err:module:import_dll Library QtSvg4.dll
I'll have to research it later, but maybe this QtSvg4.dll needs to be installed?

Re: Black screen when running Hearthstone on Linux mint 17

Post by Booman »

So far no "solid" resolution.
Some people just tried a different version of Wine.
Others re-installed Wine from scratch
Others downloaded that QtSvg4.dll and put it in their virtual drive /Windows/System32 folder.

There is no guarantee that the QtSvg4.dll is causing the problem. Some posts got their game working and the error still exists.

Can you play any other games in Mint?

Can't find a proper dl link for that file, all sites look like I shouldn't be downloading from them.
This is the first game I tried, the second is FEZ and it won't even launch...

Hi,

please post the outcome of:

Code: Select all

inxi -Gxz
so we can check your graphic card and also the driver and GLX capabilities.

Ironlake Mobile GLX Version: 2.1
no surprise, it needs OpenGL 4 and you can only get 2.1 with your card (and it's not a driver issue, it's an integrated card with just enough power to run apps but really bad for any more demanding games.)

Ah, thanks for confirming! I didn't know how to check those specs for OpenGL.
This is why I always recommend a desktop for gaming.
At the same time, you would think a "card game" wouldn't need OpenGL 4... geesh
