New logo
Here's my conceptual idea...
somebody tell me what you think...
my opinion is:
-we need to move away from the ubuntu brand and create an individual mint brand
-an image of a leaf should be present in any way shape or form
-I came up with an idea that it might be a good base to have letter L and M (standing for Linux Mint) in the logo, with L flipped, so they are merged - got the idea from the Fedora's "f" forming the infinity sign...
tell me what you all think

As much as I like your concept, it looks really great. I have to totally disagree with it.
Take a look. http://haveamint.com/
This is by a very well know designer/developer and it is extremely similar to his leaf logo, which is well known throughout the industry. Very strong brand recognition. Like I've said before leaf logos are super tricky cause there are so many and its very easy to duplicate others by accident.
The left concept is a good start and its actually where I'm heading with my revision. Great minds think alike.

I hope everybody realised that one was just a joke
how about a three-leaf version? It could symbolise both the roots fo the distro as the arrangement is similar to those dots on a circle ubuntu uses as well as importance of community as there is more than one leaf...
It requires work I know... something just doesn't seem right with it, but I was wondering what do you guys think overal about such an approach?

For me, the Carlos font set IS a logo.
I think it is not good to keep a logo locked up.
I could imagine following:
This leaf (that you like, Clem) simply placed on the left side of Linux Mint in Carlos font set. Without any frame.

Here it is... did some more work on it... and rotated so it's as different as possible from that tracking company's logo.. and it looks more optimistic pointing upward
and here's my working inscape file.. it's a mess, but that's how I work if anyone wants to polish it up...
