Are there any size restrictions to the GIMP splash image?

I do like Jernau's Mint Logo, simple and effective.

No size limits that I know of, but larger then 800x600 is probably not a good idea for other reasons...

I agree.
I did change it's ratio and tilted it somewhat upward, it's fun to play with, and very recognizable.

You could play wit the typography a bit.

and add more of a border around it 1) so the text has more space to brethe and 2) so it has some kind of real-estate and does not just end. Say maybe a border, shaddow.....
