Mint Glassy Ball Icon
This is my very first attempt at doing anything like this, but I wanted to try to create a new icon to use on my Mint Menu. If anybody wants it, I've uploaded a ZIP package containing the original GIMP file (so you can edit it yourself), the full-size file (200x200), a large icon (64x64) and a smaller icon (32x32).
I probably won't mess with it any further (I am not an artist, nor do I ever have any aspirations to be one), but I thought I'd upload it here in case anyone else wants it, or in case anyone feels like improving upon it.
I've also attached a screen shot showing what the icon looks like in the MintMenu.

Re: Mint Glassy Ball Icon
Just the idea itself is pretty cool. Nice work!
Re: Mint Glassy Ball Icon
Thanks. I would love to see someone with more talent and artistic knowledge than myself put something like this together. It really seems like there should be an official Mint glassy ball icon, similar to the one used in OpenSUSE or even similar to the one used in Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Unfortunately, as I mentioned, I am not an artist, so I couldn't even begin to generate something as nice as the one SUSE uses in its packages. I just wanted to get the "ball" rolling, as it were. I did quite a bit of searching trying to find anything similar, and only found one other attempt to create a glassy ball Mint icon (and that was for "Mint Serbia" - http://www.linuxmint-art.org/content/sh ... tent=84133).

Ok. I lied when I said I wasn't going to mess with it anymore.
I've uploaded a new package with a slightly revised version of the ball. I added highlight to make it look a little more 3D and added a background (which can easily be hidden using the XCF file). Following is the 200x200 PNG file. Here is a preview of the 32x32 icon in use:

That is a nice looking icon! Nice work!
Re: Mint Glassy Ball Icon
Thanks. I've gone ahead and uploaded it as a "Mint Icon" over at LinuxMint-Art.org.

I made something completely different inspired by th "Mint Dew II" wallpaper.
It's cathbard's logo simply scaled, cropped and edited by me - so all credit goes to cathbard!!!

Re: Mint Glassy Ball Icon
OK, so here's my take on the idea of a glassy ball icon...
Click previews to get to download page at linuxmint-art.
It can be used as a centerpiece for a wallpaper as well, I've got a few coming up!

Re: Mint Glassy Ball Icon
Zwopper, I like the glossy bright look of the second icon you posted. Both icons look very nice!
Re: Mint Glassy Ball Icon
It does kind of look like an M&M! No wonder I like it!Your orb looks like a green M&M mmmmmmmmmm! lol
Re: Mint Glassy Ball Icon
Now that's what I was looking for. Awesome work, Zwopper. Thanks for putting that together.

Thanks!dlkreations wrote: Your orb looks like a green M&M mmmmmmmmmm! lol
Is it because of the shadow placement, or is the lower left side a little off, like a melted M&M?
Yeah, the shadow makes it look a little skewed...
Thank you curt!curt_grymala wrote:Now that's what I was looking for. Awesome work, Zwopper. Thanks for putting that together.

curt_grymala, great idea, and actually not to bad work for a non-graphics type of person. I tried it and it actually looks pretty decent.
Zwopper, what can I say fantastic as always. Like someone else said however the shadow seems to make it look a bit off on my panel. I have a glossy black panel, and the black shadow looks really heavy on the right side. I'm sure it's just because of my panel. Great work!

Re: Mint Glassy Ball Icon
I think it looks good on my panel...
I'll try to find some time to make a version without the heavy shadow.
Semi-OT: I used the Glassy ball in an abstract wallpaper with a matching GIMP splash that can be found here!

Thanks Zwopper. I do appreciate your time in making the shadowless version. I've uploaded images of both on my panel so you can see the result of how it looks. Thank you so much.
