Bookmarks in Firefox need an overhaul please

The bookmarks in FF need a spring clean. In the next distro, please remove kernel.net which has been out of action for a quite some time now and replace with kernel.org?

Also, the softpedia link no longer goes to the Linux section. Please could be re-assigned to http://linux.softpedia.com

Ars Technica have revamped their site. So the existing http://arstechnica.com/open-source/ link is also broken. This would need changing to http://arstechnica.com/

And finally some suggestions for additions. I don't know if the existing links are sponsored in any way but these would be handy to have by default:

Sourceforge.net - http://sourceforge.net - Download, Develop and Publish Free Open Source Software.
DeviantART - http://www.deviantart.com/ - where ART meets application!

Thanks for reading ;)

Thanks for noticing that! I've posted a link back to your topic on the blog announcement, http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2010&cpage=5#comment-64864 (as bugs in the RC are tracked there, and dead links count as a bug I think?). Hopefully the devs have time to fix this before final release.

I wasn't sure where to put the message. Chat about Linux Mint seemed to be as good as any place because it isn't critical. If they do sort them it would be nice but hopefully if there are any more serious problems they will take priority. Thanks for adding to the blog announcement anyhow.

Hi,

I just wanted to say thank you. I tried to update these, but Mozilla put checks in place for preconfiguration to fail (the way we're doing anyway)... so we'll need to outsmart them or learn new ways to set these. We're a bit too close to the release and we're ending up with broken bookmark features in FF, so we'll leave these as they are for this release. There's a 404 and a failing bookmark altogether but at least FF works fine.. that's the most important thing for now.

You're welcome and I understand completely about them being a low priority at this stage. Sometimes seemingly simple tasks can be made over complicated by third party requirements. I look forward to the new release though. I've been learning new tricks at work with Mint 12 trying to set up a locked down machine (an old Dell Dimension 2400) to act as a web kiosk for visitors to surf the net and check mail. So far so good but Mint 13 will be the preferred version for its LTS status.

Just a follow up on the comments I made about the web kiosk. I ended up using ubuntu 10.04 LTS as a base and locking it down with Pessulus and the Public Fox plugin. Unfortunately it got too time consuming to carry on with customising the configuration manually since I was learning as I was going and dealing with all my other duties at work given the deadline for getting the machine up and running.

I was close but not close enough. I might try it again in my own time at a future date
