Annoying flaw in the forum's search feature

Postby saxgeek on Thu Nov 07, 2013 11:10 pm

I really hate trying to search the Linux Mint forums for help on a topic and being confronted with this message:

"The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: <words here>
You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 5 characters and must not contain more than 14 characters excluding wildcards."

Therefore, the search algorithm completely ignores all of these useful terms:
KDE, Xfce, LXDE, Wine, hard disk, GUI, USB, Unix, Red Hat, and the list goes on and on...
In the world of computing, we have many acronyms and application names that are less than five letters. I understand that they are trying to narrow down the search results, but this is too extreme. It makes it very difficult sometimes to search for things.

I request that the forum webmasters fix this! It's really annoying!
