Fedora has introduced a "virtualisation preview repository" - see http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Virtualiz ... Repository. This is a great idea since virtualisation technology such as kvm and Xen are progressing rapidly, and often added to the latest kernel release or latest kvm/xen packages.
A virtualisation preview repo would allow users to utilize the latest advances in virtualisation while running an otherwise standard release of Linux Mint. This becomes even more critical for the upcoming LM 17 and the following 3 releases which - if I understand Clems blog post correctly - will all be based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and thus not advance in kernel etc. releases.
EDIT: I'd volunteer for testing.

Re: Preview repository
I doubt that. Looking back at Ubuntu 12.04; it went from kernel 3.2.14 at time of release to 3.2.24, 3.5.7.2, 3.8.0 and ultimately 3.11.0 during its first two years (I'm using upstream release numbers; Ubuntu deviates from upstream release numbers for kernels from upstream that aren't long-term stable ones). As I take it, when you upgrade to Linux Mint 17.1 in 6 months you'll get that upgrade to a newer kernel also.powerhouse wrote:will all be based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and thus not advance in kernel

Re: Preview repository
Thanks for clarifying, xenopeek. Yes, I do now remember the kernel upgrades. However, the Xen packages haven't been upgraded (except XSA security updates), and LM 13 still runs Xen 4.1. A lot has happened since Xen 4.1. That is why Fedora has specifically issued a virtualisation preview repository.
