Default configuration mimetypes is wrong

Post by Yanpas »

I've discovered that Linux mint mimetypes are preconfigured wrong. I'm talking about

Code: Select all

/usr/share/applications/defaults.list
For example this line

Code: Select all

inode/directory=nemo.desktop;caja.desktop;nautilus.desktop;Thunar.desktop;kde4-dolphin.desktop
. Nemo has top priority, which is not wright for non cinnamon editions (mine is xfce). Better would be to place fisrt neutral xdg-open, which will dependeing from DE will choose default file manager (for xfce it will choose exo-open, and exo-open will choose what i have chosen in settings). Same for browsers, email and maybe some other stuff.

PS I have 3-4 file managers installed on my system, after I've installed nemo - it has become default in some apps (qt)

PPS Clem, could you please open github repo with mint default configurations. It would be very handy to create PRs and discuss what we can improve in default configuration?

Maybe xdg-open is wrong, cause it looks up in this defaults.list file, but gvfs-open, exo-open and kde-open is good choice, isn't it?
