Is Ubuntu as a base still strong enough?

At the risk of starting a flame war (which I hope does not happen - I am serious about this and I am not sure where Ubuntu is heading) ...
...
Reading all the comments on Ubuntu (f.e. distrowatch weekly Issue 430 - article "Opinions Disunity" and - especially - seeing the growing list of bugs that are being triaged I wonder how long Ubuntu will be strong enough to base Linux Mint on.

How do you guys deal with all these bugs?

Do you just ignore them?
Do you (want us to) participate in solving them?
Do these bugs limit your options and possibly even dictate which parts of ubuntu can be used as a base and which parts have to be left out?

Is DEBIAN a more solid base than Ubuntu and would you recommend LMDE over the main edition based on Ubuntu in the near future?
Do you perhaps consider to leave Ubuntu behind in future?

I am beginning to have serious doubts about Ubuntu which was my most used distro before I met Mint.

I tried: Fedora, Debian, openSuse, Mandrake (my very first in 1999), Centos, Ubuntu and Kubuntu

Looking forward to the comments from Clem and his brothers and sisters in arms and - of course - comments and opinions from other Mint users

regarding Flamewar: Naaaah :)
regarding Bugs: No idea
regarding participation: Always! It's why we have "communities" and not a "group of customers" :P If you cannot supply a solution with the bug you report, please at least supply all relative information so the person that is going to address it does so with the best possible start! :)
regarding limitations: Probably. I'm not calling Unity a bug for instance, but it will be left out.
regarding solid base and leaving Ubuntu: Cannot say that now, time will tell. There's a big topic on the matter though.

Cheers,

Anakin
