Attach Sound to Events

It would make my life easier if I could attach my own set of sound files to computer events. That way I could tell what was happening, and on which computer, when I was off doing something important. Which events? Most anything would be useful, like a process ended, a print job finished, program loaded, password prompt, or a dialogue box needs a response.
